Survival of Cancer Patients in Europe:
the EUROCARE-2 Study
Edited by F. Berrino, R. Capocaccia, J. Estève, G. Gatta, T. Hakulinen, A. Micheli, M. Sant and A. Verdecchia
|

This book presents the most recent available population-based survival data
with complete five-year follow-up concerning patients diagnosed between 1985 and 1989 in 47 populations covered by
cancer registration in 17 European countries.

The results show that, overall, there appears to be a close association between cancer survival and the general
socioeconomic conditions of the population, particularly in terms of the resources available for health care.

Comparison with the data from the first stage of the EUROCARE study (IARC Scientific Publication No. 132)
shows that in countries where population-based cancer registries have been established for several decades,
survival of cancer patients has increased dramatically for many cancer sites.
